How was that decision made?
Taking a Look at the market leaders With live chat feature on the market, we also found Crisp through Producthunt. After we’ve made a Spreadsheet with multiple live chat vendors, we identified that the core feature and metrics we were searching for.
What did we use previously?
We’ve Used several other live chat earlier, which somehow shifted their attention from a live conversation to a”all in 1 business suite”. Their live chat still works, but metrics that are significant for us were eliminated. We have used those metrics for our yearly reports, and client overviews, growth rates and much more. After we were in for four weeks those metrics disappeared and were replaced by other metrics. We’ve obtained a leaderboard for our team members, which we did not use because we’re searching for quality service rather than quantity as well as the pricing appears to outperform the advantage. Our choice was clear at that moment: we had to move on.
Chat log
We found 14 times history, 30 days History and unlimited history (for higher plans that this is common), also here the cost scaling was intriguing. All live chats we tried had this feature, a few at higher price tagsothers combined with a poorly implemented search feature, therefore the history was not available. With Crisp, the boundless history is currently available with their first paid plan, and it not only ships with a fair price tag, but also their hunt works astoundingly well.
How many contacts do we need?
First, we tried to answer that Question with another question”how many clients will talk with us” – and that was wrong – we made that mistake already once. We can’t restrict on the contacts we create because we really want to earn contact with them all. Unlimited contacts was what we were searching for (in an affordable price tag). What we discovered were chats with 100 active contacts for $0/month which was quite nice, we climbed that up a little to 1,000 active contacts and the price tag shifted from $0/m to ~$125/m or more (~$500/m). We have had that experience of cost scaling for most of the solutions. As we did the Exact Same contact metric evaluation for Crisp we saw something different:
So at Crisp, you don’t scale by usage – which is huge! They think the identical way we do in Storyblok, we do not wish to restrict the user to the usage of this machine (eg. Content entrances or entries ), we would like to scale as their team scales. So at Crisp you choose a program and you may scale the numbers from 10 to 10.000 contacts (or more) with exactly the exact same price tag.
Trigger events / messages
Automated triggers are used to Send a specific message on predefined events, eg. “a visitor is on the exact same website for over 30 seconds”. Those triggers are a good method to help your viewers with questions they may have. We use it on our pricing page because from time to time there are open questions about our pricing, maybe something is not covered in the FAQ section. This part is available in all options we analyzed and mainly available in the first paid plan.
Ability to send campaign messages
From Time to Time we send mails Using our live chat. We think it’s a fantastic way to retarget our audience because we should have the ability to send relevant content according to some metrics people live talks offer. To be honest, we are not sending many mails, because we also hate spam on our side. So we like to send specific mails to particular target groups and again: we really like the implementation in the Crisp client. It is simple and fulfilled our needs at a sensible price tag.
Amount of brokers
The broker chairs is kinda Interesting, it’s something that you can control. You could choose one account for the entire team (which can be cheap with the majority of options ), or you could go for a single seat for every team member. Since we want to get this personal approach to our clients the idea of using one accounts for the entire group was dropped immediately. We have begun to compare the first paid plan against the majority of the high tier plans to observe how the cost scales . The highest costs we discovered were about ~$155/m per seat where the scope was somewhere from $15/m to that. We had a look at Crisp again and found that their greatest package has unlimited agents chairs included. Also, their free strategy allowed 2 representatives, which was great for testing. Software Compatibility
Everybody enjoys integrations. Integrations to Slack, Telegram, Zendesk, Bitbucket, or Jira – you name it. Most live chats provide integrations into the main channels. We don’t actually utilize integrations that much, but the one we use the most is using Slack. Slack is the main communication tool in our company, we utilize it on a daily basis and included most of our resources already – so we concentrated on how they work and function together with Slack. We tested some of them and many are actually working quite well. We found one that has enormous delays when messaging from and to Slack which was a no-go for all of us. We reported that difficulty to these, but we don’t know if they changed it since we left six months ago. With Crisp the integration worked immediately, notifications arrived immediately and the whole setup was completed in a few minutes.
Control the client via JavaScript
We’re using the live chat not Only on the website but also in our application itself. Clients might want to report an issue or simply have a fast question about something, therefore the direct integration, and a possibility to initialize and hide/show the client with JavaScript has been a must-have. It was possible with most live chats we have tried, the documentation of Crisp about their JavaScript SDK is clear and well recorded so that we got that running in under 30 minutes.

Cost
This one is tricky. If you read The last few things you saw that we contrasted the lower tier programs and attribute with the highest tier programs, some are economical at the beginning and become expensive as you use them. After using Crisp for six months now, and switched from a competition because of the pricey”ending” and those attribute we did not need but would need to pay for. We are pleased to state that we think we have the very best fit for us, maybe it will fit as nicely for you. We found the list of 8 aspects above is all you need to find your own best fit.
Summary
We made contact with incredible great people (thank You!) And companies all around the globe. We might have had exactly the same experience with other live chats too, but the price combined with the feature set Crisp does provide, we would and already do recommend it to all of customers that are searching for a live discussion themselves. We’ve upgraded to the Crisp endless plan a while ago, and are thankful we made that decision.
